FAQs

Padel is the best of all racket sports. It’s easy to pick up like pickleball, dynamic like squash, and athletic like tennis.
It is almost always played in doubles on an enclosed court that is about a third of the size of a tennis court. The game was invented in Mexico in the 1960s and has since gained popularity in many countries, particularly in Europe and Latin America.
A padel racket is about three inches thick made of carbon fiber with holes in it to minimize drag. The ball has a very similar appearance to a tennis ball, but the pressure is lower, reducing the bounce. The rules are somewhat similar to tennis, but there are unique elements, such as the ball being allowed to bounce off the walls during play.
Padel is known for its social and inclusive nature, as it is relatively easy to learn and doesn't require the same level of physical fitness as some other racket sports.

To start a point, players serve the ball (below waist height) behind the service line into the diagonally opposite box. A ball is in play if it crosses the net and lands within the opposite side. After the first bounce, the ball may bounce off of one or more walls, but the returning player loses the point if it bounces a second time on the turf. On the return, you can also hit it off the glass (but not the fence) before crossing the net. However, if the ball hits the fence in regular play (not a serve return), it is still in play. The dynamism of the walls means you can hit over 38 different kinds of shots!
Scoring in padel is almost identical to tennis; each game is played to four points, and points are counted as 15, 30, 40, and game. The game can use advantage scoring, or what is called a “golden point”, meaning that when the score reaches 40-40 (deuce), whichever team wins the next point wins the game. A match in padel is played as the best of three sets, with each set won by the first team to reach six games, but they must win by a margin of two games. In case of a 6-6 tie, a tiebreaker is played to 7 points to determine the set winner.
